Tolkien Library Store - Original Cloth Bindings - The Hobbit original bindings

The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Published by Houghton Mifflin in 1959, from sheets printed in Great Britain.

The book is in Very Good Plus condition, with the lightest bit of soiling to the covers and a bit of light tanning to the spine.
A previous owners name to the upper margin of the front map, no other writing, offsetting or foxing noted.
The boards are clean and bright, no bumped corners or shelfwear noted. The color is light green cloth with blue stamping of Title to front boards.
Blue stamped Title, Dwarves Hat, Author and publisher to the spine.
The title verso has the full printing history up to this Eleventh impression of 1959, and the dustjacket is correctly marked as the 11th impression.
The dustjacket is in Very Good condition, with only minor loss or rubbing to the edges, but with a 1/4 inch wide piece that runs across the top of the spine.
A bit of rubbing to the front flap fold, with minor color loss in a couple of spots. The front panel of the dustjacket has some soiling to the white areas, most notable a spill mark to the upper panel.
All edges of the text block are clean without any soiling for foxing marks noted, top edge a little dusty.

A scarce, beautiful copy, of an early American printing, with the very unusual full printing history on the title verso, of this much sought after children's classic.
