Do you have information on the BBC documentary Tolkien in Oxford? (28.10.13 by Pieter Collier) - Comments

Researchers at Oxford University are interested in hearing from any member of staff who may have worked on a BBC production from March 1968 entitled "Tolkien in Oxford", presented by John Izzard.

They would like to talk to anyone who may have assisted with the production and may have further information about the filming or interviews.
Tolkien at Merton College

The documentary was shot from 5-9 February 1968, and broadcast on 30 March 1968. A transcription of the interview was released on 7 April 2007 for the Children of Húrin Release. Others parts of the same interview were released by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on April 19, 2007, and in J.R.R. Tolkien: An Audio Portrait. In August 2010, the BBC Archives released the original, full version of Tolkien in Oxford on their website.

Leading this research is Dr Stuart Lee, a Tolkien Scholar who teaches at Oxford University. He is also a member of Merton College and 2014 is the college's 750th anniversary. Professor Tolkien was a fellow of Merton, and the film taken in 1968 was mainly in college grounds.

If you have any information or could assist in any way please contact Dr Stuart Lee, English Faculty, University of Oxford – stuart.lee@ell.ox.ac.uk or his PA Lydia Berry pa@it.ox.ac.uk
