There were only four printings of the First Edition, 1946 being the year of the last printing of the First Edition. Tolkien amended the text for the Second Edition of The Hobbit in 1951 because Gollum's character was just a little too nice in these early Hobbits and it did not jibe well with his character in The Lord of the Rings. This printing has the original version of Chapter V (Riddles in the Dark).
A scarce and desirable copy for the collector. Shows almost no signs of handling and age, which is rare because it was produced under ‘war economy standards’.
The green boards are bright and have no stains or fading.
There is some minor rubbing to the spine at the top and bottom.
No foxing or offsetting to any pages. Text block is clean and complete.
Lacking the original dust jacket.
Expect for some light spots and soiling this is a magnificent 1942 Hobbit.
Has had no restoration or repairs. A beautiful copy of one of the rarest Hobbits
