Guinevere: A Study of her Abductions, written by the distinguished medieval scholar Kenneth G. T. Webster.
From the library of J.R.R. Tolkien.

This is a study of the medieval Arthurian legends and romances, and was privately printed in 1951, 9 years after Webster's death, edited by his wife Deborah Weston with her own line drawings illustrating the text; privately printed by The Turtle Press, Milton, Massachusetts.

This copy is inscribed on the title page in pen and ink:
'Professor Tolkien / from Deborah and Deborah Webster / with our admiration & respect'

and a separate typed letter is inserted, not addressed to Tolkein personally, but stating:
'I am sending you this copy of Professor Webster's GUINEVERE with my compliments, because I think he would have wished to send it to you, had he lived to see it in print'.

This is a covering letter, with the typed date 'September, 1951' corrected in pen and ink to 'Oct '52'.

The book was sold by Thornton's, in Oxford, to academic scholar prof. Michael Bath for his own research purposes in then late-1970s when he was doing the research for his book The Image of the Stag: Iconographic Themes in Western Art (Baden-Baden: Koerner Verlag, 1992), and he made a few scholarly annotations in pencil on pp.19, 74, 98, 104, 109 - Webster has a whole chapter on 'The White Hart' which is a key motif in prof. Baths' Stag book.
These are brief annotations in pencil by an academic scholar who was responding to some of Webster's discoveries in the course of research that fed into another scholarly publication directly related to the medieval and Arthurian interests that both authors shared in their published writing with Tolkien himself.

Makes a beautiful addition to any serious Tolkien collection.
