This is the 1st impression of the ballantine Paperback Edition, published August 1965.
The book is in Near Fine condition, with a light bump to the lower front corner of the book.
No wrinkles to the spine, appears unread.
The pages are not tanned as is normally the case.
This book appears to have been put up, and never read or handled again.
Clean, bright, shiny covers, no soiling to note.
No previous owners names or other markings noted.
The orange stained edges are all clean and unmarked.
The Barbara Remington illustration on the front cover, does still have the Lion, which was later removed due to Tolkiens complaints.
A clean, fresh copy of a very significant book, which first placed the affordable paperback issue into the American publics hands.
Has the infamous "A Statement from the Author".
"This paperback edition, and no other, has been published with my consent and co-operation.
Those who approve of courtesy (at least) to living authors will purchase it, and no other."
A wonderful copy for the collector, increasingly scarce in the remarkable condition.
