The last weeks were very busy! Almost every week something new was happening. We all got the news that the new book by Christina Scull & Wayne Hammond, THE J. R. R. TOLKIEN COMPANION AND GUIDE: Boxed Set, is delayed with a month. But on 2 November we will finally see the publication! We can enjoy a lot of many new books this month, most of them are edited by or with contributions from Michael D.C. Drout. Also I can announce a wonderful art exhibition by Henning Janssen, we can see the 70th anniversary edition of The Hobbit and the 30th anniversary edition of The Silmarillion and many other re-issues, an article on downloadable Tolkien Audio Books, more news on the new Tolkien book The Children of Hurin, a children book by Vic Parker on J.R.R. Tolkien and an article about the 1st edition of the Hobbit which turned 69 this month. Finally I wish to give attention to a new section at the Tolkien Library site, namely the "Tolkien Collector Profiles". Hope this will give ideas for beginning collectors and will give collectors a chance to learn more about each other. Any Tolkien collector who wants to contribute his own profile please contact me.

While last month the world was talking about the publication of the new Tolkien book, THE CHILDREN OF HÚRIN, it seems this month is dominated by new publications by Michael D.C. Drout. Most people will know him from Beowulf and the Critics, published in December 2002, which was the result of a discovered manuscript for "Beowulf and the Critics" while working on a project in an Oxford library in 1996. We see four new books this month of which three Michael D.C. contributed to.

A new thing this year are the downloadable audio books. Up to date we could all buy Tolkien Audio Books on CD or even on cassettes. Now, with the success of the iPod, Harper Collins has taken a new road: J.R.R. Tolkien Downloadable Audio Books. No wonder they made an exclusive deal with iTunes who are also having a similar deal for Harry Potter Audio Books. This year we can start downloading the most famous works, read by Rob Inglis, Martin Shaw and Derek Jacobi.
