Beowulf and the Finnesburg Fragment, A Translation into Modern English Prose by John R. Clark Hall, with Prefatory Remarks by J.R.R. Tolkien. Revised Edition 1950.Signed and dedicated by J.R.R. Tolkien with "A small tit for a great Tat - KF from J.R.R. Tolkien" KF most probably stands for Katherine Farrer. Tolkien lived at 3 Manor Road, Oxford, from March 1947 to May 1950. One of his neighbours was Katherine Farrer and her husband, the theologian Austion Marsden Farrer. KF read Classics and Greats at Oxford as a member of the Society of Oxford Home-Students. She had a close relationship with Tolkien and they wrote each other. He even signed her a copy of the Hobbit and she read parts of the Quenta Silmarillion (already in 1947). Tolkien continued to write with KF through at least the late 1950's, in part about the progress and reception of the Lord of the Rings. This book is in mint almost perfect condition and is housed in a archival milar for protection. The board is perfect as is the text block. It is as new!
